Re:  Parking in Roscommon.

Dear Members,

As you know there is a new carpark in town with pedestrian access to Main Street and The Square.  I am attaching a document and would ask all members to display it in their workplace and encourage their staff to use the new carpark or indeed the other car parks around the town rather than parking their car on the street.

The non-availability of street car parking is a significant problem for businesses.  The new carpark is an excellent facility.  It provides free car parking for the employees (off street) all day without causing any interruption or hindrance to business.  The Council are clearly indicting that charging for street car parking will be introduced to counter this problem.  Unless it is dealt with now by the businesses and the employees working together the Council will act to deal with it by introducing paid street parking (excluding the car park).

This is the busiest time of the year and every effort should be made to ensure that the street parking is available for customers use in the course of the day.  Its non-availability is adversely affecting business.  It is in your employee’s interest to park in the available carparks.

The Bank of Ireland Enterprise awards is coming to a conclusion.  The judges will be visiting the town on the 1st of December 2016 and the awards ceremony is being held in the Abbey Hotel on the 7th of December 2016.  The participating Counties are Kildare, Laois, Roscommon and Mayo.

The competition aims to promote enterprise by bringing business and community groups together to showcase the spirit of enterprise in their local area.

Aside from the financial award for the overall winner of €10,000 there will be enormous favourable national publicity and an ideal opportunity to showcase the town.  We would urge you to get your Christmas decorations and Christmas window displays in as soon as possible, but most definitely before the end of November.  We want the town looking as well as possible for the judges.

Remember when you are advertising either in the local papers or via social media that you use the hastag #rosmas.

Yours sincerely,

Sean Mahon
