Letter to Chamber Members from Chamber President regarding rates.
I have been contacted by various members who have received notifications from the Valuation Office with revised Valuations. Before you have a heart attack you should bear in mind that the
figure utilised in the proposed Valuation Certificate has to be multiplied by the ARV which is set by Roscommon County Council. The indication from Roscommon County Council is that the
ARV for 2018 will be 0.25. Essentially that means that the rates will be approximately 1⁄4 of the proposed valuation set out in the letter from the Valuation Office.
I know from speaking to various members that they were concerned that their Rates liability had multiplied by 300%/400%. However, you don’t pay the figure on the proposed Valuation.
Rather that has to be first multiplied by the ARV which is approximately 0.25 which equates to a quarter of the figure. We will be having a meeting of members next week probably and if it is
that people have any concerns the best thing to do is come along to the meeting and bring in the proposed Valuation Certificate that has been sent to you by the Valuation Office. You have a period of 40 days from the date of the issue of the Notice to challenge it if you so wish.
